Around 8,000 tickets have sold for the festival at Eastnor Deer Park, which is in its sixth year.

BBC  Hereford and Worcester had its own stage run by Introducing presenter, Andrew Marsden.  The stage showcased new and unsigned bands from across  Herefordshire and Worcestershire, hosting three days of live music.

BBC Humberside - Capital of Culture 2017

BBC Humbersdie's bus at burton constable hall
BBC Humberside's bus at burton constable hall

2017 is a big year for Hull and everyone involved in the City.

For the whole year, the city is the UK City of Culture.

BBC Humberside wanted to refelt this right but not forget about the rest of the editorial area. (East Riding of Yorkshire, North and North-East Lincolnshire)

To that end, the former BBC Somerset bus has been reconditioned and sent north.

From January to December 2017 the new BBC Humberside bus with travel around the region.

They will be broadcasting the Phil White show (12 noon to 2.30pm) each day, Monday to Friday.
From Bridlington to Cleethorpes, Grimsby to Goole, the bus will broadcast across the patch not only making sure that the events of the City of Cutler are covered but also the areas outside the city don't feel like the BBC is missing them out.

I was drafted in to drive the bus, as the two members of BBC staff hadn't passed their driving test and also to help set up the broadcast side of the bus.

10 Years of No Supper Casino in Blackpool

Mike Steves talking about investment in the seaside town.
It was going to the making of the town.  The once busy seaside town of Blackpool was looking forward to the high life once again.

Blackpool's popularity came in the Victoria era and has suffered a slow and steady downturn in the latter half of last Century.

But the problems were all going to be solved on turn on a card.   Blackpool was to become "The Las Vagas of the North" or so we were told.

The town council put all its eggs in one basket and bid to host the Uk's first  Super Casino.

There really wasn't a plan B for Blackpool.  It was this or nothing for the town.

Then on the 30th of January 2007 came the news that seemed to put the final nail in the coffin of Blackpool, Manchester was to host the Super Casino, not the seaside town.
The news was hard to take for the Fylde Coast.

How would Blackpool survive this?

10 year to the day that the news broke, BBC Radio Lancashire spent the whole day on the Prom looking at what has happened since the decision.

A super casino never did come to the Fylde but the town has been on something of a journey.  To stand on the seafront now and look back over the 10 years you would see 1000's of pounds of investment.

Blackpool's Comedy Carpet
The investment that saw a new look Prom, new trams and new tram stops.  The money brought in new investors like Merlin who own the Town as well as other attractions in the town.

It also made new attractions like the Comedy Carpet where BBC Radio Lancashire spent the day.

All in all the fact that Blackpool didn't get the super Casino could have been the making of the town.   We will never know but Plan B, the plan that we didn't have, has worked for Blackpool.  Manchester never did get a Super Casino either.

National League Play-off 2016

Another day, another visit to Wembley.

This time it's to see who can came that 92nd and last place in the football league.

The game on Sunday the 15th of May kicked off at 4pm between Forest Green Rovers of Gloucester and Grimsby Town of North East Lincolnshire.

As you can imagine both BBC Local radio stations (BBC Gloucestershire and BBC Humberside) had full live coverage to see if they could get another league side on there patch.

We had all the build up from Olympic way.

As for the match itself.  Well Grimsby won that three goals to nil, going up via the play offs at the 3rd time of asking.

Well done Grimsby Town FC.

Tour de Yorkshire 2016

The Tour de Yorkshire 2016

After the sussess of the Grand Depart of 2014, when the Tour de France started in Yorkshire, orgenisers of the tour made it an annual thing.   It can't be part of the full Tour de France each year so a new race was set up.

THE TOUR DE YORKSHIRE.

Now into its second year the Tour de Yorkshire takes place across the whole of Yorkshire and even into Middlesbro' this year.

The three day event is coved in full by BBC Local Radio and as you would expect the BBC Bus is there to lend a helping hand to what is a logistical nightmear for the stations.

On Friady the 29th of April the Tour started in the historic market town of Beverly in the East Riding.  The Bus was in the the village of Market Weighton to watch the tour leave the East Riding.

On Day two (Saturday the 30th of April) we got in to West Yorkshire to the start line that was in Otley.  There we watched not only the start of the mens race but the start of the very first womans race with 27 year old Lizzie Armitstead starting the race in her home town.   Armitstead was a member of the gold medal winning team pursuit squad at the 2009 Track World Championships, her second appearance at a senior world championship event.

On the last day we headed back east again to scarborough to the finishing line by the beach.  Were we saw Danish Thomas Voecker beat Ireland's and team sky's Nicolas Roche by just six seconds over the whole three days.

Colin Bloomfield Melanoma Appeal - Skcin

On Saturday the 25th of April 2015,  BBC Radio Derby Breakfast presenter Colin Bloomfield lost his battle agents cancer aged just 33.

After a successful battle agents skin cancer some 10 years earlier he was diagnosed with cancer again a year ago.

Out of the great sadness that staff of BBC Radio Derby are felling came some good right out of the heart of Colin himself.

BBC Bus in Long Eaton
BBC Bus in Long Eaton
Before his death Colin spent time promoting Skin Cancer awareness, how to avoid it and what to
look out for.

Linking up with the charity Skcin BBC Radio Derby hit the road to have peoples moles tested on the streets.

On the streets in Belper, Long Eaton, Burton and Derby, The BBC Bus was joined by two doctors per day to check peoples moles.

Over 500 people came to the the over the 4 days all working about a mole or mark on their skin.  I can't give numbers here but I know that some of the people that where seen to have been told it see their doctor as a mater of urgency. Most however were fine.  Even after his death Colin is saving lives.

Also on the bus was Anthony Hubbard from Skcin.  Along with the normal advice, Anthony had a Ultra Violet camera that can take photo of skin damage on your face due to the suns rays.

This photo is of me, (as Im not going to post one of a listener).  Normally you should shut your eyes and maybe not have such a cheesy smile but you can see that my skin in fine (for now).

At the time of writing this I have just seen that the appeal has raised just over its first target of £75000.

Milton Keynes Marathon 2015

Adrian at the MK Marathon
At the start of the MK Marathon

The MK Marathon takes place on the first bank holiday in May each year.

In 2015 it was Monday the 4th of May.

As last year, we were used as the official start with the starter on the roof of the bus.   As soon as everyone had passed we decamped and moved a few hundred yards closer to the finish line.
fun runner
One of the fun runners

The winner of the main race was a man who claimed he only started training on the Thursday before
and had been on a night out before the race.  I'm not sure how much I believe of this but that is what he said.

There where other races including a half marathon, a super hero race and a batton relay.
